Why the cleaning fee needs a number, not a guess

Every checkout costs you money: the cleaner's time, a full laundry load, fresh toiletries and cleaning liquids. If your average guest stays only one or two nights, these costs eat a large share of each booking. A separate cleaning fee recovers them, but if it is too high, short-stay guests see a total price that looks expensive and book elsewhere.

Turnover cost = Cleaner hours × Hourly pay + Laundry + Supplies + Other
Cleaning fee = Turnover cost × Share recovered ÷ (1 − Platform fee %)
Impact per night = Cleaning fee ÷ Average stay nights

How to read the result

  • Suggested fee: rounded up to the next ₹50 so it looks clean on the listing.
  • Impact per night: what the fee adds to each night of an average stay. Guests compare total prices, so this matters more than the fee itself.
  • Add to the nightly rate instead: the amount you would add per night if you dropped the fee completely.

Fee or no fee?

Some hosts keep no cleaning fee and build the cost into the nightly rate. This makes the listing look simpler and helps on platforms that show the total price upfront. Others prefer a fee because it protects margin on one-night stays. A middle path works well for many homestays:

  • Recover 50% to 70% of the cost through the fee and the rest through the nightly rate.
  • Set a two-night minimum on weekends, so the fee is spread over more nights.
  • Charge a higher fee only for pets or large groups, where cleaning really takes longer.

Keep costs under control

Use a fixed checklist so every turnover takes the same time, and keep enough linen sets so laundry does not slow you down. The linen par calculator shows how many sets you need. Then check your full rate with the homestay income calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is a reasonable cleaning fee for an Airbnb in India?

It depends on your cleaner's pay, laundry and supplies. Calculate your real turnover cost first, then check that the fee adds no more than about 10% to 15% to each night of an average stay.

Should the cleaning fee be the same for one night and five nights?

Most platforms charge it once per stay, so it hurts short stays more. Many hosts set a minimum stay or recover part of the cost through the nightly rate.

Does the platform take a fee on the cleaning fee?

On many platforms the host service fee applies to the cleaning fee as well. This calculator grosses up the fee so you still recover your cost after that deduction.
