Better hotel interviews in less time
Most hotel hiring happens fast: a steward leaves before a wedding season, a front office associate resigns with a week’s notice. Under that pressure, interviews turn into a chat about the CV, and the wrong person gets hired. This generator gives you 15 structured questions for the role and level you are hiring, each with a short guide to what a good answer sounds like, and a scorecard to print.
Three kinds of questions
- Technical (6): checks job knowledge, such as room status codes for housekeeping, Form C for front office, FIFO for kitchen, or parity for revenue roles.
- Situational (5): “what would you do if” questions based on real hotel moments, filtered by the focus areas you tick. For supervisor and manager levels leadership situations are added.
- Behavioural (4): “tell me about a time” questions. Past behaviour is a good predictor of future behaviour, so look for a real example with details, not a textbook answer.
How to run the interview
- Pick the role and level, tick two or three focus areas and generate. Click again for a different mix.
- Print the scorecard and use the same questions for every candidate for that role, so the comparison is fair.
- Score each answer from 1 to 5 straight after the candidate answers. Write one line of evidence in the notes column.
- For skilled roles, add a practical test: a bed-making demo, a mock check-in, or a cooking trial.
- Check references before you make the offer.
What to avoid
Do not ask about religion, caste, marriage plans, pregnancy or family background. These questions are unfair and can expose your hotel to complaints. Focus on the skills, attitude and availability the job needs, such as shift work and weekends.
Before the interview, make sure the role is clear. Our hotel job description generator writes duties and requirements for common hotel roles, and the hotel SOP generator gives you procedures to use in the practical test and in training once the person joins.

Frequently asked questions
What questions should I ask a hotel front office candidate?
Ask about the check-in process, handling an overbooked night, Form C for foreign guests, upselling an upgrade and shift handover, plus situational questions about angry guests and system failures.
How many questions should a hotel interview have?
Around 12 to 15 well-chosen questions are enough for 30 to 40 minutes. Mix technical, situational and behavioural questions and add a practical test for skilled roles.
How should I score interview answers?
Use a 1 to 5 scale for each question, write one line of evidence, and add scores for grooming, communication and attitude. Use the same questions for every candidate for the role.
