One standard list for every room
A guest notices a missing hanger, an empty tea tray or a TV without a remote long before they notice the thread count. A room inventory checklist fixes the standard quantity of every item in each room type, so housekeeping sets every room the same way and the check-out inspection catches anything missing or damaged before the guest settles the bill.
How to build your checklist
- Pick the room type and edit the items by area: bedroom, bathroom, wardrobe, tea tray and minibar, electronics. Start each area with a line that ends in a colon.
- Write the standard quantity next to each item, for example "Bath towels, 2". This is your par level per room.
- Choose whether the sheet is for check-out inspection, a daily room check or a pre-arrival inspection.
- Print one copy per room to be checked. Room attendants tick OK, Missing or Damaged and write the quantity found.
Using it at check-out
- When the guest asks for the bill, the front desk calls housekeeping to inspect the room. Agree a target time, such as ten minutes, so guests are not kept waiting.
- Check high-value and easily packed items first: remotes, hair dryer, bathrobes, towels and key cards.
- Report missing or damaged items to the desk immediately with the checklist. Charges should follow your written damage policy and a fixed rate list.
- File the signed checklist with the room folio for at least a few weeks, in case of later disputes.
Keep standards consistent
Use the same list in your housekeeping SOP and staff training. The hotel SOP generator has ready room-cleaning and inspection procedures. When you know the standard number of towels and sheets per room, you can also plan stock: the hotel linen par calculator turns room-level quantities into the total linen you need to buy.
Review the list every few months. Remove items guests do not use, add what they ask for often, and keep each room type's list up to date when you renovate.

Frequently asked questions
What items should a hotel room have?
Most rooms need bedding and pillows, towels and a bath mat, toiletries, hangers, a kettle with tea and coffee, water, a TV and AC remote, key cards and a dustbin. Higher categories add bathrobes, slippers, a minibar and a hair dryer.
How long should a check-out room inspection take?
A focused check of key items usually takes a few minutes. Many hotels set a target of around ten minutes so guests are not delayed at the desk.
Should every room type have a different checklist?
Yes. Suites, family rooms and standard rooms often have different furniture and amenities, so keep one list per room type with its own standard quantities.
