Hotel Electricity Cost Calculator
Estimate your monthly power bill from room ACs, geysers and other load, and see the electricity cost per occupied room.
Why track electricity cost per occupied room
Power is usually one of the biggest controllable costs in an Indian hotel, especially in hot or humid regions where room ACs run most of the night. The total bill alone does not tell you whether you are efficient, because it rises with occupancy. Dividing the bill by rooms sold gives a cost per occupied room that you can compare month to month and include when you set your minimum room rate.
How to fill in the calculator
- AC power: check the rating plate or the brochure. A 1.5-ton split AC typically draws 1.2 to 1.8 kW when the compressor is running; inverter models use less on average.
- Hours: estimate how long ACs actually run on an occupied night, not the full 24 hours.
- Other load: lobby and restaurant ACs, kitchen equipment, lights, lifts, water pumps and laundry. Estimate their combined running kW and daily hours.
- Tariff and fixed charges: take them from your latest commercial electricity bill. Many states also charge electricity duty and a fixed or demand charge based on sanctioned load.
Once you have an estimate, compare the units with your real bill. If the real bill is much higher, look for equipment left on in empty rooms, old ACs or leaking geysers.
Using the result
Add the electricity cost per occupied room to your other per-room costs, such as laundry and amenities, when you calculate your lowest sellable rate with the hotel room rate calculator. Include the monthly bill as a fixed and variable cost in the break-even occupancy calculator so you know the occupancy you need to cover it.
Quick savings that usually pay back fast
- Key-card switches in rooms.
- LED lights in all corridors and public areas.
- Solar water heating for hill and resort properties.
- Regular AC servicing and a sensible default temperature.
Frequently asked questions
How much electricity does a hotel room AC use?
A 1.5-ton split AC draws roughly 1.2 to 1.8 kW while running. Running 8 hours a night, it uses about 10 to 14 units per occupied night, depending on model and climate.
What is electricity cost per occupied room?
It is your monthly electricity bill divided by the number of rooms sold in that month. It helps you compare efficiency across months and price rooms correctly.
Why is my actual bill higher than the estimate?
Equipment may run longer than assumed, older ACs use more power, and fixed or demand charges, duty and taxes vary by state. Adjust hours and loads to match your real bill.
