How to use the OTA Member Discount Impact Calculator

This OTA Member Discount Impact Calculator runs fully in your browser on mobile or desktop – no sign-up and nothing is uploaded. Free OTA member discount calculator. Stack member, mobile and promo discounts with commission and 18% GST on it to see final price and net to hotel.

How OTA discounts stack

Most OTAs let you join several discount programmes at once: a member or loyalty discount for signed-in users, a mobile-app discount, and seasonal or deal promotions. Each looks small on its own, but a guest who qualifies for all of them can get a much lower price than you planned. On top of that, commission is charged on the discounted price, and in the 5% hotel GST slab the 18% GST on that commission cannot be set off.

Final price = Base × (1 − d1) × (1 − d2) × (1 − d3)  |  Net = Final − Commission − GST on commission

Some programmes apply one after another (compounding), others are applied together on the base rate. Check each OTA's extranet; this calculator handles both.

Example

Base rate ₹5,000 with 10% member, 10% mobile and 10% promotion discounts. Compounded, the guest pays ₹3,645 — an effective discount of 27.1%, not 10%. After 18% commission (₹656) and GST on commission (₹118), about ₹2,871 reaches the hotel, roughly 57% of the rate you loaded.

How to control discount stacking

  • Set a ceiling. Decide the maximum total discount you accept, for example 20–25%, and check every combination against it.
  • Load the right base rate. If you need a fixed net, work backwards: enter your target net and the tool shows the base rate required.
  • Exclude peak dates. Most programmes allow blackout dates. Use them for weekends, festivals and long weekends.
  • Watch parity. A deeply discounted member price can undercut your own website. Compare channels with the rate parity checker.
  • Know your true commission. The OTA commission calculator shows commission and GST on it for any booking value.

Review your programme settings every quarter. Programmes are easy to switch on and easy to forget, and the cost is hidden inside every booking.

Frequently asked questions

Do OTA discounts add up or compound?

It depends on the OTA and the programme. Many apply one after another on the already discounted price, which compounds. Others are applied together on the base rate. Check the rules in your extranet.

Is OTA commission charged on the discounted price?

Commission is normally charged on the amount the guest actually pays for the room, so it is calculated on the price after discounts.

What is a safe maximum total discount?

There is no fixed rule, but many hotels cap combined discounts at around 20 to 25% and block them on peak dates. Set a cap that still covers your costs and keeps parity with your website.
